In 2005 Boe and I were approached by Marty Schupak from the Youth Sports Club, and Videos for Coaches. Marty’s company creates ‘backyard’ style instructional DVD’s for coaches of many sports. This DVD helps guide coaches in planning hockey drills and practices. I was pleasantly surprised to see it rank 6th on Youtube when I searched for ‘Hockey drills.’ We had a lot of fun making the video at Riverbank State Park, on 145th Street in Harlem, NYC. At that time I was helping run the hockey program in Harlem, and Boe was working with youth hockey teams in Baltimore Youth Hockey. Boe brought his kids up from Baltimore, and I gathered my kids from the program in New York. Although not the most skilled group at the time, the kids enjoyed working together and creating this DVD. There are a lot of resources on the internet for coaches, but we have always found a lack of practice planning tips. There are lots of hockey drills, but not a lot of guidance in putting them into one cohesive, thoughtful, and fun hockey practice. This video led to the creation the the Complete Season manuals available for download on this site. Our iPhone App under the same name will be out this spring.
