I always have a number of different projects on the go. My imagination is my blessing, and my curse. It can make it hard to explain exactly what we do in one sentence. Between recreational camps, elite camps, coach mentorship, downloadable coach products, and our online member site, my elevator pitch requires a trip up the Empire State building to fit it all in. I want to share a lesson I have recently learned that may help you learn to inspire your hockey community.
I’m reading a book called The Art of the Start 2.0 by Guy Kawasaki. In it he challenges me to come up with a three or four word mantra that explains the meaning of my work. The exercise has helped me find the common thread and purpose amongst all that we do.
The new Leslie Global Sports Mantra:
Inspire Hockey Communities Around the World.
This mantra connected the dots between coaches, recreational players, and advanced players with whom we work, and has given our business greater clarity and purpose. Setting the intention of inspiring coaches, players, and communities, our communication strategies, philosophical approach, and coaching demeanor are now crystal clear. Demeaning a player, discrediting a coaches opinion, or any action that could have counterproductive consequences, is off the table. Such behavior has never been our approach, but now it’s the mantra and the philosophy of our company guiding the way rather than having to make a conscious decision in each new circumstance. By putting the mantra in writing we commit to it and let it guide us through our decision-making and execution of projects and initiatives.
Join Us: Inspire Your Hockey Community:
I share this with you today because I want coaches and influencers in the youth hockey world to use this example and find inspiration in sharing your message with your community. When your mission is to inspire the community around you it removes the ego and puts the greater good of the community at the forefront of everything you do. If you are an influencer, or want to become one, picture yourself not at the top of your community pyramid but add to the center of an intricate an amazing web of talents and expertise within your community. I think together we may find that inspiring our communities may simply require us to be ourselves, encourage learning, and promote open-mindedness. Be the change you want to see in the world.
