As February 11th draws closer, we are gearing up for our involvement with Hockey Day in Canada on CBC at the Richmond Olympic Oval. Due to our new partnership with the Oval, LGS is responsible for all on-ice instruction of the HighER Performance Hockey Program starting this April, 2012. On the 11th, CBC will be broadcasting live from many rinks across the country including the Oval. I feel very fortunate to be running the North Vancouver Midget A1 team through a skills session at 11am at the Oval. A few players from teams I have coached over the years will join us, to create a fun opportunity to meet and train with new players. While running practice I’ll be mic’d explaining to the general public what we look for in the various drills, and how to get the most out of each on ice session. To add to the excitement of the day, we’ll also be participating in the celebrity floorball game at 12:30pm, and the Midget team will play floorball at 1:15pm. What is floorball you ask? It is an amazingly fast paced sport played widely across much of Europe, in particular in Scandinavia. As a recent addition to the Canadian Men’s National Team coaching staff, I’ve had the opportunity to be involved with the game on the international stage. In fact, we leave with the National Team on Tuesday, January 31st for the World Cup Qualifying matches vs the USA in Pasadena California.
