The Children’s Hockey Academy of Mongolia has completed their first season in the country’s first indoor rink. A total of 35 boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 9 were able to take part in the Academy’s inaugural season. Although still under construction, the Children’s Hockey Academy, located in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar, allowed local youth to play hockey this past winter. Despite frequent COVID-19 interruptions and local governments closing outdoor rinks, this many kids playing hockey should be celebrated as a success. Local coach, hockey organiser, friend of LGS and now rink builder, Mergan Arslan, has played a key role in connecting the efforts of Project Mongolia with local youth hockey players from around Mongolia.
The pictures below are from the Academy’s year end round robin tournament in April. Much of the hockey gear seen in these photos are from the donations of the 2019 Project Mongolia Gear Drive. As you can see, the kids are also looking very sharp in their Vancouver Thunderbird jerseys. There are plans to hold another gear drive sometime in the Fall of 2021.
We inspire a global hockey community. Help spread the word.
It is our goal to bring our local hockey community together so that we can collectively make an impact on the entire sport of hockey in Mongolia. So far you have helped us grow the number of kids playing 300% and helped start Mongolia’s first ever Women’s National Team. Please do keep Project Mongolia in mind when clearing out any unused hockey equipment!
