Torpedo Forecheck – This next forechecking system looks in its initial stage like the 2-3, but the torpedo forecheck, which is a very Swedish style, has some distinct points of emphasis. Now the benefit is that the first two forwards are jumping right away on the attack, and the Defenseman 1 and F3 are ready to jump in to either forecheck and stop a rim or if we get the puck, to be a passing option.

The major issue with this system is this big gap in the middle, so it really is up to these aggressive attacking forwards to create those turnovers and give these guys a chance to jump in and join the play.
So we start out as this super aggressive forecheck with a defensive line that is then ready to activate but we need to be careful of all the space given up in the middle. So that’s just a short one on this less commonly used but what can be effective with active Defensemen and an active F3 the torpedo for the Swedish forechecking system.
