Today Tatiana Rafter joins our coaching staff. This is a huge coup for Leslie Global Sports, and a great step for Tatiana in her hockey career. Tatiana is playing her first season of professional women’s hockey, in the inaugural season of the National Women’s Hockey League. Tatiana’s energy and enthusiasm are what drew us to her, so I’ll let you all hear about her amazing CIS and professional journey directly from her!
Tatiana Rafter:
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tatiana Rafter and I played out my University career at UBC. I played 5 seasons with the Thunderbirds and finished off my senior year as the most decorated UBC Women’s Hockey Player and am blessed to have received Canwest MVP, 1st Team CIS honors and two invitations to represent Team Canada at the FISU Games (International University Sports Federation) over the course of my time as a T-Bird. My university career was one for the books and prepared me for the next chapter of my life, as a professional hockey player.
I am in the process of wrapping up my first season playing pro in the NWHL (National Women’s Hockey League) for the Buffalo Beauts. I played forward primarily as UBC but I have been on the point and wing at the professional level. To read a bit more about my time with the Beauts feel free to check out this behind the scenes on “My Life as a Pro”at www.hockeywriters.com.
Aside from my playing career I have been active in hockey skill development since I was 15. Most recently I have been working with the U10 and U12 female Bisons teams in Buffalo, but I have experience with all skill and age levels. Areas I love to work with players on specifically are skating technique, individualized skill development, as well as the player’s mental game but I am flexible if there is something better suited for the athlete.
I am flying out to Vancouver post season to join the LGS Team! I will be posting blogs here during the final weeks of my season in Buffalo to involve you in my thoughts and my process. I will also be covering the NWHL playoffs via thehockeywriters.com so stay tuned for that as well. If you have any questions feel free to email me at tatiana.rafter@gmail.com.
I am getting so excited for this journey and I hope you are too,
Tatiana Rafter #43
