The following info will help you see your child’s camp experience through a trained eye, as a Leslie Global Sports Summer Hockey School is a unique experience!

  1. We take great care in organized execution of a curriculum based series of hockey practice plans combining individual skill development, competitive drills, and small area games in a fun and upbeat setting.
  2. We aim to teach every step of the way without wasting time talking too much.  We want kids getting lots of reps, and getting feedback while waiting for their turn.
  3. Our coach to player ratio will range from 1:5 to 1:7.  1st thing Day 1, for example, we will have 8 coaches on the ice running 6 skating stations and goalie training with 5 or 6 players in each station.  Players are grouped by age and ability to maximize enjoyment of every single player.  We want them to feel confident, engaged, and valued.
  4. Goalies will receive goalie specific training for about 20 minutes every morning, then are introduced into the player drills, while being provided continuous feedback in every setting.
  5. Proper work to rest ratio is very important, in order to maximize reps while getting just enough rest to be ready to go.  That magic number is between 3:1 and 4:1.  If 6 players are in a group, likely a minimum of 2 will be moving at any one time.
  6. Kids will have a ton of fun, sometimes not even realizing they are refining a skill!
  7. Every session starts and ends with a game.  Morning 1 is the exception where we want to jump right into skating drills for 20 minutes so all parents dropping off their kids have a chance to see our camp in true action, and kids are excited to get moving!
  8. The last 20-25 minutes of each afternoon ice time will be a full ice controlled game divided into lines based on age and ability.  If you want to drop in during game time, keep this timing in mind!
  9. Our fitness staff have organized sessions based on the Canada Sport for Life model of age appropriate training, combining fun movement games and sport.
